The Initiative for Learning and Motivation (ILM) Trust, based in Delhi, is a registered non-profit organisation committed to providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children, primarily those from migrant families involved in rag-picking.
We began with one learning centre in the Tugalpur locality of Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in January 2019. Today, we run three such learning centres in different localities of the city. Since 2022, we also have a tailoring school attached to one of the learning centres, to address the educational and vocational needs of children who otherwise have no access to formal education.
Children of rag-pickers in Delhi NCR are often deprived of basic educational facilities. These children, ranging from ages five to fifteen, typically engage in rag-picking to support their families, leaving them with little to no opportunity for schooling. The ILM Trust’s learning centres cater specifically to this demographic, providing them with education, mid-day meals, and school supplies such as textbooks, uniforms and winter clothes.
In addition to the learning centers the trust also has a scholarship scheme to support children in formal schools and persue higher education. Currently the trust pays the fees for a total of 27 childen in formal school. The tust is also supporting 3 students persuing higher techical education.
